Fighting Dry Skin

Hi everyone! Through the years I have had the privilege of answering many questions about skin care and nutrition. My recent hip surgery and the recovery involved has afforded me the opportunity to start my own blog, trusting you will benefit from the information I am going to share.

Someone recently asked why her skin was dry in the morning, even after using a night cream before going to bed. Night creams are made with ingredients that are designed to stay on top and hydrate the cells of the skin surface. During the night many of those surface cells naturally sluff off on to your pillow along with your precious cream. To insure an extra protection from dryness you will need to do three things.

One is to exfoliate the skin at least once a week. This will lessen the loss of your night cream. For best results, I prefer using the ones made of active fruit enzymes over the ones with granules. They do a better job of gently and evenly dissolving the dry cells with less irritation. Second, every night after thoroughly cleansing your skin, apply a water soluble serum formulated to penetrate below the skin’s surface and hydrate the deeper layers. One of the best serums for hydration has an ingredient called Hyaluronic acid. This ingredient helps the skin hold 400 times its weight in moisture.

The last step would be to follow with a good night cream. You will want to work it into the skin to seal in the serum and thoroughly hydrate the surface layer. If you are super dry, try using a cream with shea butter or collagen in it.

Following these 3 easy steps will insure your skin feels and looks youthful and dewy all season long.
